Debate and Public Speaking

The Humanities department plays a key role in promoting the skills of debate and public speaking.  Kineton takes part in a number of competitions and conferences each year.  Over the last few years students have joined in British Parliamentary style debate at the University of Warwick, such as Warwick Schools and a Warwick EU Referendum debate.  We also send public speaking teams to the annual Youth Speaks competitions organised by the Shipston and Stratford Rotary Clubs.

In Years 7 and 8, Mr Bonfield and Mrs Dharna run a floor debate club in room R2.  Anybody in that age group who is interested in debating issues both deep and trivial, is very welcome to come along on Thursdays at lunchtime.

An upper school debate and public speaking club meets in room 24 on Wednesdays at lunchtime.  Mrs Edge and Miss Paybody, as well as the more experienced students, train students in the rules of formal debate systems.
